Driving long-term behavioral change at the grocery checkout
Obesity is a major public health problem in the United States, driven largely by the country's food environment and socioeconomic factors. Highly processed foods are widely available, heavily marketed, and often cheaper than healthier options. Misleading packaging can make unhealthy products seem nutritious, leaving many people unsure of what a healthy diet looks like. In many low-income communities, limited access to fresh, nutritious foods and financial or time constraints make processed, convenient meals the easiest choice. Together, these factors make healthy eating more difficult and contribute to high obesity rates across the United States.
NutriSavings helps address these challenges by making healthy eating simpler, easier to understand and more affordable. The platform identifies nutritious alternatives to everyday grocery items and highlights hidden unhealthy ingredients, reducing the confusion around what's truly healthy. Additionally, it partners with employers to offer cash back incentives on healthier food choices, reducing healthcare costs associated with diet-related conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
At NutriSavings, I managed the end-to-end product lifecycle, leading the strategy, development, and deployment of key product features, including healthier alternatives, recipes, shopping lists, ingredient insights highlighting the benefits and drawbacks of products, an updated USDA-based scoring system, and more. Following the successful launch of the web platform, I expanded the NutriSavings experience to iOS and Android by driving the mobile product strategy, user experience, and design to deliver a seamless cross-platform solution.
